Abstract

The Nigerian government's strategy toward the Boko Haram insurgency has been further compromised by the continuing abduction of the Chibok schoolgirls after a late October 2014 announcement that their release from Boko Haram captivity was imminent. Whether the result of genuine mistakes or intentional misinformation, a string of false hopes regarding the prospects of triumph over terrorism casts serious doubts over the government's credibility.
