Despite the justified causes for the social unrest that led to the popular uprising that resulted in the ousting of long-time strongman Blaise Compaoré, Burkina Faso saw a subsequent loss of civilian governance and the suspension of the constitution. However, tangible progress toward a truly democratic country has been made.
