PSC/PR/COMM;

Council expressed its gratitude for the third AU PCRD Awareness Week and emphasized the need for the Commission to review the AU PCRD Policy as soon as possible and the Draft be submitted as soon as possible for consideration by the Council, and subsequently by the Permanent Representatives Committee, the Executive Council and, eventually, by the AU Assembly of Heads of State and Government during the Ordinary session to be held in February 2024. While directing deployment of AU Multidimensional Technical Support Teams informed by technical needs of the Member States, Council encouraged the reinforcement of the AU Peacebuilding Architecture through enhanced collaboration between the AU Commission and the RECs/RMs. Council encouraged the (i) RECs/RMs to establish a network of PCRD Focal Points through the I-RECKE platfor; (ii) the AU Commission ensure the provision of mental health and psycho-social support to victims of violent conflicts, particularly, women and girls who are often affected disproportionately as to the youth and children; and (iii) initiatives by Member States seeking to enhance capacity building of other Member States and Civil Society Organizations. The AU Commission was (i) requested to explore innovative approaches in exploiting the nexus between peace, security, governance and development; and (ii) to advocate for a global, integrated, and multidimensional approach based on the nexus between peace, security, and development. Council ultimately called for the African Solidarity Initiative to be revived and the PSC Sub-Committee on PCRD operationalized.
