Small-scale fisheries account for at least 40 percent of the global wild catch and, when processing and related activities are factored in, provide employment for some 60 million people. But the economic value of these fisheries is only part of their importance. Through a multidisciplinary approach, this study uncovers the less obvious contributions and impacts of small-scale fisheries.
