In August 2016, social media was again employed on a large scale by political activists to move forward progressive agendas. The tool that enabled the Arab Spring to topple North Africa's dictators in 2011 has been adopted in 2016 by oppressed peoples from Ethiopia and challengers of a stale political status quo in South Africa. However, social media is only a tool and not a substitute for real action, and activists know that hard work lies beyond the virtual digital world.
