Demobilisation and its aftermath I : A profile of South Africa's demobilised military personnel

Abstract

The SANDF will be reducing its personnel requirements in line with the new defence budget and the requisite force levels. This monograph highlights some of the issues facing the rationalisation process that evolved from the challenges which confronted demobilised soldiers. It also examines the socio-economic profile of demobilised SANDF personnel in order to suggest ways of assisting those who were previously demobilised, as well as those who are likely to leave the military in the future. A comparative study of demobilisation programmes in selected countries in the developing world, as well as in other African countries is also provided.
