Abstract

Ethics and Public Service in Africa will provide students and practitioners with a working knowledge of the basic ethical values and concepts that are useful in management of African Public Services. In easy-to-understand language, the book discusses the relevance of ethical decision-making and reflection to improve public-service delivery in Africa. Its thrust is to urge African Public Servants, and the general readership, to look into Africa's own cultural and value systems, as beacons for their day-to-day endeavours. Without relying on these pillars, the provision of vital public service will continue to be problematic, and perpetuate the already-visible institutional decay. Each chapter raises pertinent issues about moral values, in public-service management, without being pessimistic.
