While pressures on Africa have dramatically increased from many sides, the continent has also experienced the re-launching of the project of pan-Africanism. Globalisation has catapulted the continent onto the world agenda. Africa is about to be re-discovered and there is a talk about recolonisation. Against this threat, Pan-Africanism is re-emerging as an alternative to fragmentation and possible re-colonisation. Some African intellectuals have joined the optimism of some politicians seeking a renaissance in Africa.
