While the Anti-Apartheid Movement concerned itself with ending South Africa's rule of Namibia as part of the general struggle against apartheid, this article discusses British solidarity work focused specifically on Namibia and the campaign to secure its independence. The growth of such work is traced, in the context of British government policy on the Namibian issue, from the Friends of Namibia to the Namibia Support Committee (NSC) and Church Action on Namibia (CAN). NSC's complex relations with the South West People's Organisation are analysed. Through the work of NSC and CAN links were established between individuals in Britain and in Namibia, and some of these continued after Namibia became independent in 1990.
