This article argues that since 2005, conflicts between the Lou Nuer and the Murle in Jonglei State in South Sudan have shifted from being resource-driven to identity driven. The author says that historically, conflicts in Jonglei were best described as environmental conflicts; however, in recent conflicts, there have been clear demonstrations of ethnic hatred in both sides, and that arguably the tactics used amounted to acts of genocide.
