The Solemn Declaration on Gender Equality in Africa (SDGEA) is an instrument fashioned to engender growth and development and sustain human rights. The Constitutive Act of the African Union (AU) remains the building block on which the gender equality architecture can be positively articulated and reinforced. It takes its bearing from other international regional and continental instruments as endorsed by the Member States (MS). From inception the AU has garnered a wealth of experience to take the lead in propagating gender equality on the Continent. It has consistently through consultation and collaboration delivered ownership by advancing people-driven decision and policies tailored to earn obligatory assent. The SDGEA is one several laudable instruments where women Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs) are taken on board to follow up and even offer the technical support as pivots in the development process are accorded due recognition to take the lead.
