This essay explores the concept of the ‘constructed habitation’: a space that is constructed, sometimes physically, sometimes abstractly, by the author, in concert with the characters who will inhabit it. In Ali Ghalem's Algerian novel, A wife for my son, Bhabha's discussion of liminality applies to each of Ghalem's characters.
