The article examines the labor practices and precedents along the Ugandan Railway in 1893-1903, drawing in official records from Kenya and Great Britain. It looks at the development of power structure, the coercion and exploitation of labor from the 1893 railway survey to the 1903 end of administrative dualism. It discusses the Ugandan Railway in the political development of the Kenyan settler colony and the association of population manipulation and dehumanization with the settler state.
