The Peace and Security Council of the African Union (AU), at its 68th meeting, held on 14 December 2006, adopted a decision on “the Establishment of a Coordination and Consultation Mechanism between the African Union Peace and Security Council and the United Nations Security Council.

In accordance with Article 11 (7) of the Protocol Relating to the Establishment of the Peace and Security Council of the African Union, the Peace and Security Council adopts the Modalities for the functioning of the Panel of the Wise.
