The authors review findings of studies on the employment of university graduates in Egypt, the Philippines, the Sudan, Tanzania and Zambia. They study the complex relationship between education and employment and the over-simplified models of quantitative correspondence between the output of an educational system and the expected intake of the labour market. Some emphasis is put on the employment of graduates which varies with countries and with time. The social demand and reasons for undertaking higher education as well as students advice in selecting a career are reviewed. The authors have tried to draw from the survey a set of "hints" to help educational planners.
