This article documents how Rhodes University's MA programme in Creative Writing uses multilingual and vernacular poetry and prose as a basis to develop teaching strategies that engage students writing in multiple languages, foreground the heteroglossia of English and challenge the purity of any language. By focusing on these practical approaches, the article demonstrates the value of small-scale acts, in addition to broader curricular changes for transforming systems of domination.
